Drug Description

Humulin R is a drug which comes in the form of an injectable solution in cartridges of 3 mL, intended for use in a pen like QuickPen type.

Humulin R Composition

1 mL of solution contains:
Active substance: Regular Human Insulin 100 IU.

Secondary ingredients: metacresol, hydrochloric acid, glycerol, water, etc. / and sodium hydroxide.

Therapeutic Indication

Indications for use of Humulin R insulin serve type 1 diabetes, as well as type 2 when there is: individual partial resistance to the hypoglycemic drugs for oral administration (in treatment), individual resistance to hypoglycemic drugs for oral administration, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetes, established during pregnancy (in case of ineffectiveness of diet), hyperosmolar coma, infections with fever (in diabetes for intermittent use), metabolic disorders, childbirth, injuries, operations (in order to prepare the patient with diabetes), transition to further insulin therapy over a long action.

Humulin R Side Effects

- Hypoglycemic coma, hypoglycemia.

- Allergic reactions (shortness of breath, rash, fever, low blood pressure, angioedema).

- Diabetic acidosis and hyperglycaemia (in the background of infections and fever, while skipping injections under-dosage, violation of diet).

- Visual disturbances (there are at the beginning of therapy and are transient).

- Impairment of consciousness (with the possible pre-comatose and coma).

- Cross reaction to human insulin, immunological character.

- Lipodystrophy, pruritus, flushing in the area of ​​administration.

- Anti-insulin increase in titer of antibodies to the further formation of glucose.

Humulin R Contraindications/Precautionary Measures

Hypersensitivity to the ingredients of Humulin R, hypoglycemia.

Overdosage

Overdose symptoms considered to be manifestations of hypoglycemia observed in the form of weakness, pale skin, cold sweat, palpitations, nervousness, tremor, hunger, headache, paresthesia in the extremities, tongue, lips. Also, possible convulsions and hypoglycemic coma.

In case of mild hypoglycemia, the patient, for her self-help, it is necessary to ingest foods rich in sugar or in the digestible carbohydrates.

In case of more severe symptoms, glucagon or dextrose injections solution are used. If hypoglycemic coma, is recommended 20-100 ml of 40% dextrose, up 'till the patient is out of the coma.
